Misconceptions of Hemp ?

The hemp leaf has long been a symbol of anarchy, prohibition, sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll. But now, thanks to the legislation passed in Australia late 2017, hemp is now free to be a symbol of vibrant health and legal to be consumed as food.

You’ve probably seen hemp seed, oil and protein health food shops and even supermarkets. These are all offer benefits to your body in various ways.

Although hemp is becoming more and more recognised there is still so much misconception surround what Hemp actually is. Hemp is different to other varieties of the cannabis plant Cannabis sativa which are commonly referred to as marijuana. It contains no, or very low levels of THC which is the cannabinoid associated with the psychoactive properties of marijuana.

THERE IS SO MUCH MORE TO HEMP
The major health benefit of hemp is the balanced ratio of omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids. There are two fatty acids which are essential to the body and can only be found in the diet: omega 6 fatty acid (linoleic acid), and omega 3 fatty (alpha-linolenic acid). Hemp is a rich source of both of these essential fats and laboratory tests show Probiotic Foods’ Fermented Hemp+ has an excellent balance of omega 3,6 and 9.
When you give your car a good oil and grease change notice the difference. It is the same with good quality omega 3 fats:

  • they keep your hair and skin silky
  • create juicy hormones
  • keep your heart and blood pumping smoothly
  • support cognitive function of the brain for mental health
  • support joint health
  • support the immune system by resolving inflammation

QUOTE – “Omega 3 deficiency is the single biggest nutrient deficiency in modern times and more health problems are attributed to eating the wrong types of fats than anything else.”
Erasmus ‘Fats That Heal, Fats That Kill’

Simply put, good oils are the body’s natural antidote to inflammation and inflammation is the basis of virtually all disease. The gut controls the dial on our inner ecosystem and inflammation. When gut bacteria are in balance and doing their job, they support the immune system to reduce inflammation. New research is showing that eating the right types of fat can improve our gut microbiome in similar ways to eating the right types of fibre.
Eat a variety of good quality fats and oils and limit, fried, heated and treated oils in processed foods (e.g. avoid canola oil and sunflower oil in commercial hummus, pesto, rice cakes, muesli, rice milk etc.).
